Steve Gill for Mayor

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Except for the current mayor's arrogance I think The Rev. Dr. Odom-Groh has done a good job but let's give someone else a chance and write-in Steve Gill for Mayor!

Arrogance  is a great word to describe the current mayor..... He really thinks alot of himself, and that we are below him.  He doesn't "own" this City, and as a Rev, he should be humbled...not arrogant

A little competition never hurt anyone, and it is especially good in government.  I know that when I am not challenged, I tend to get a little fat and lazy.  Same thing can happen in government.  To revise my opening statement, competition is good if is governed by fair play.  The operative word there is "fair."

I am really caught in a cross-fire in this mayoral election.  I have worked closely with Dr.Odom-Groh on two major projects (speed humps and Neighborhood Watch) and found him very obliging and not arrogant at all.  Steve, my next door neighbor, is a very friendly, pleasant, and competent young man.  He and Kim are wonderful neighbors.  My wife and I are still pondering which candidate would best represent us and our views.

The originator of this post said something to the effect of giving someone else a chance.  Chance is a word I normally associate with rolling dice, playing blackjack, or driving drunk.  In my humble opinion, it is not a good reason to vote for or against anyone.  Furthermore, I detest the unfair and despicable tactics that politicians and their supporters have sunk to in the past 10-15 years.  Elections should be decided on qualifications, not on who can make the most noise buy the most commercials, or post the most online.  I have seen change for the sake of change produce some very negative and costly results in my 73 years.

And my 73 years brings up another issue.  I resent the fact that somewhere in the way-too-many negative emails and website posts in this "campaign" several comments seemed to pit old against young.  That be the case, you called me out.  How can anyone earn my vote with that position?  Despite that, I still have an open mind.  In my 73 years, I have also learned to always keep my options open as long as I can.  Yogi was right when he said, "It ain't over until it's over."

Frankly, I think common sense has to set in here somewhere; and, then we in our household can make a decision as to which gentleman should be the person to lead this city for the next four years in such a manner that will allow this city to continue to be a good place to own property and live.

And, as an aside, could I get some of you good folks to use some of that youthful vim, vigor, and vitality to help complete putting together this Neighborhood Watch Program?  Both young folks and old folks and the ones in the middle are more than welcome to pitch in.  Larry and I have worked hard recruiting and organizing Block Captains (Steve is one.) and doing the other numerous things that were required to get in the Metro Neighborhood Watch Program.  The Block Captains have worked hard in their neighborhoods. But, we still need five more block captains, several alternates, and need four block maps completed.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Back to the election, may the best man win.  As a property owner, a veteran, a father of 7, and a grandfather of 10, I have a stake in this community, this state, and this nation.  So, you can bet your sweet bippy that I will be at the polls bright and early to vote for one of these two gentlemen and the other candidates for other offices that best "turn my crank" and have earned my vote.

Please excuse any incorrectly spelled words,  I can spell my fingers can't.

God Bless America!

I just want to inform everyone that this campaign for mayor is a conflict of interest with my current position at work.  I spoke with HR today and I need to withdraw as a write-in candidate for mayor.  Thank you for your support.
