I believe the broadcast industry calls this a PSA - - - Public Service Announcement. This morning Sue went downstairs to get something out of the storage area in the mechanical room - - and was greeted by a fairly large puddle on the floor. Water was obviously leaking for the humidifier. It didn't take long to see that the plastic drain pipe was clogged with a nasty looking pink and black "slime". I removed the plastic tube, forced water and a bleach/water/mixture through it, and pulled a piece of paper towel through using a wire puller. Should be good for a while.
I have heard of others who suffered a similar fate - - and one neighbor who replaced the tube with a larger one that is less prone to clogging. It all goes back to the marginal water we get from Blaine, coupled with the nice warm slime growing atmosphere at the furnace/humidifier.
If you have questions, give me a call or drop an email. And, while you're at the humidifier, you might want to check the damper in the humidifier air handling tube to be sure you are routing moist air into the house.
Happy holidays! The Andersons
