What is happening at the Wedgewood Farmers Market

Caribbean Band will be playing this Saturday from 11 to 1.  

Other artists will performing the following weeks and will appreciate tips.

The Wedgewood Farmers Market website is being updated today.  Look for info on when various vegetables are expected to be in.  


In addition to produce, we have meats (grass fed beef, free range chicken, pork including Bratwurst and Sweet Italian Sausage.  We also have eggs, honey and blueberrry bushes.

Kids Activities are being taken to a new level.

Start building your cars for the Wedgewood Farmers Market Pinewood Derby races, which will be on Saturdays (as soon as the track is completed).

These are the rules we used for Wedgewood Farmers Market Pinewood Derby race. Rules may differ, so be sure to read and abide by the rules for our races.
ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE
Following are the inspection points
The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
3. The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
4. The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
5. The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
6. The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired.
7. The wheels supplied with the kit must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels.
8. The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated.
9. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
10. The car must not ride on any type of springs.
11. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
12. The car body may have no moving parts.

13. If, during a race, a car leaves the track without interfering with its opponent, it shall be considered to have ended its heat at that point.
14. If a car leaves its lane, at his sole discretion, the track chairman may inspect the track and, if a track fault is found which probably caused the initial violation, the track chairman may order the race to be rerun after the track is repaired.
15. If, during a race, no car reaches the finish line on the track, the car which went the farthest in its lane shall be declared as the heat winner.
16. If, during a race, a car leaves its lane and, in so doing, interferes with another racer, then the car at fault shall be declared to have lost the race heat.
17. Only one car may be registered by any person in Wedgewood’s Farmers Market Pinewood Derby.
18. Only dry lubricants such as graphite or powdered teflon "white lube" will be allowed for lubricating the wheels. Lubricants may not foul the track.
19. Only one lubrication is allowed before the beginning of the first race and then once again before the beginning of the first race of the semi-finals and finals.
20. Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications.
21. No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot, may be used.
22. Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.

A double wave 19 ft commercial water slide has been purchased and delivery is expected first of May.  Expect to use slide second weekend in May.  Only a slight mist is used so kids will not be soaking wet.

A 4 station Boom Blaster game has been ordered and should arrive soon.  See attached photo.

Competition between kids and also between adults.

Also, expect to see Spiderman, a Pirate, and a Clown at the Market.

Jim deMaine and John Britt, who are Wedgewoodians who live in Madison Park are building four carnival games including a striker for kids and adults, wooden ring toss on bottles and a throw the bean bag through a baseball/home plate background.

A food truck will be available this Saturday.  Also expecting a professional chef to cook some ribs.

Working with a snow cone vendor, homemade soap and lotion vendor, and ice cream vendor.  

We appreciate your support of the Farmers Market.  Madison Park Residents can rent space for $10.

Wedgewood Artistic Cafe this Saturday from 6:00 to 8.  Grilled food served 6 - 6:45.

Chef Michael Bowling, who has made several appearances on WBTV channel 3 & and is known for his cuisine styles (multiple), will be cooking at Wedgewood Farmers Market this Saturday. We are starting with simple stuff: burgers and hot dogs.


Chef Bowling is a friend of Steven Ferguson.  Also from Steven:

I invited his son's little league out for some work fun. They will hold our signs and wash cars....I figured the work, the kids having fun and the food added to the already awesome plans would give us more positive exposure and give some new good smells to the air.

Wedgewood Farmers Market welcomes its newest vendor, Ray Alexander, who is providing: jams, jellies from NC Amish community, pickled okra, pickled corns, country ham, Valdalia onion relish, apple butter, pumpkin butter, peach butter.
