Zombie apocalypse

There probably won’t be an event where we’ll have to defend against a zombie apocalypse – or at least we hope not – but there’s one thing we can learn from the dozens of movies and television shows depicting the takeover of the undead: preparedness is essential. Whether it’s building a disaster supply kit or developing a family emergency plan, being prepared is critical in the event of any real catastrophe, such as a flood.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management and Mecklenburg County municipalities are asking for your input on hazards that affect your community the most. Your input will help update the County’s multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), last updated in 2010. It is vital to have the public’s input on hazards, mitigation goals, strategies and actions for the plan.

The public is invited to the next meeting to learn about flood-related hazards and how you can be prepared. Participants will also get an update of the previous meeting and can discuss other natural hazards with staff. The opportunities for the public’s involvement are:

Tuesday, Dec. 16, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Huntersville Town Hall 101 Huntersville-Concord Road,
Huntersville 28078
Flood mitigation strategies and how you can prepare for a flood will be presented. Information about the previous meeting and the plan will also be available.

Summer 2015 (Location and Date TBD)
Final Plan Review- Public can view and give feedback on the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan.

A public survey has been developed in order to allow for public comment about hazards threatening our community. The survey will be available until Dec. 31, 2014. You can also visit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management web page to learn more.
