Recycling Item Spotlight ... Juice Boxes

Juice Box Image

The recycling item spotlight for this issue is juice boxes. In 2010, juice boxes were added to the acceptable recyclable list.

A juice box is considered an aseptic container, meaning it is manufactured and filled under sterile conditions and requires no refrigeration or preservatives to remain germ-free. Multiple layers of paper, aluminum foil and polyethylene make up juice boxes.

Juice boxes are important to recycle for many reasons: diversion of recyclables from the waste stream/landfill and like all recyclables it is better for the environment.

The best tip to remember when recycling juice boxes is the container should be empty of all contents. Not only can you recycle your juice boxes in your residential rollout container but you can recycle at school and on the go!

Got Yard Waste?

Solid Waste Services collects leaves and other yard waste on the same day as garbage and recycling collection. Please use the following tips to properly prepare yard waste for collection:

  • Place leaves in untied plastic bags or uncovered trash cans
  • Cut limbs, logs and brush to no more than five feet in length and four inches in diameter
  • Piles should be separated and sorted by type of yard waste (limbs, loose debris, bagged/container or logs). Separate into piles that are no longer than five feet and no higher than three feet. There should be at least two feet between piles
