Recycling Item Spotlight ... Aerosol Cans

Did you know you can recycle aerosol cans in the Recycle it! curbside collection program? Aerosol cans were added to the City's list of acceptable recyclables in 2010.

The best tips for recycling aerosol cans are to make sure the can is empty (free of content) and if the can has a lid, the lid is removed. The spray nozzle should not be removed from the aerosol can (even an empty can), it could pose danger if the pressurized can is punctured.

Examples of aerosol can packaging are hair sprays, shaving creams, cooking sprays, disinfectants, etc. Once received at the recycling center, the cans are sorted into the aluminum/steel area of the facility and processed.

Aerosol can recycling is beneficial because the recycled steel can be used to create new steel items including more aerosol cans!
