??‹February 15, 2015 - Winter storm moving into Charlotte region
The City of Charlotte is warning the public to prepare for a winter storm beginning Monday afternoon into Tuesday. The storm is predicted to bring icing conditions that may make road and travel conditions dangerous in the area. Ice could accumulate on power lines and trees resulting in power outages and downed trees.
??‹Service updates as of 11 a.m.
Roads - Major roads, bridges and hospital entrances are being treated. Crews will continue treating roads throughout the evening and into tomorrow morning. Call 704-336-3200 to report icy roads.??‹
Trash and recycling - Normal pickup except for yard waste today. Collection services for tomorrow will be reviewed and announced later today.
Buses and light rail - Express bus service will begin at 3 p.m. and continue for as long as possible. LYNX light rail will begin its rush hour service at 2 p.m. Visit ridetransit.org for updates and schedule changes.
Airport - De-icing procedures are under way and taxiways are being treated. Please contact your airline directly??‹ for schedule changes.
Police - CMPD has increased its staffing capacity to respond as needed.
Fire - CFD has brought in additional staff to assist in response to wrecks and downed power lines.
Warming stations - A warming station will open from noon to 6 p.m. It is located at the Mecklenburg County Homeless Resource Center, 618 North College Street (map). Those requiring shelter will be provided transportation.
Shelters - The following shelters will be available tonight
- Salvation Army Women's Shelter, 534 Spratt Street
- Men's Shelter of Charlotte, 1201 North Tryon
- Urban Ministry/Room at the Inn, 945 North College Streetm
- Piedmont IB Middle School (Red Cross Shelter), 1241 East 10th Street
