The City of Charlotte reminds area residents that although conditions on primary roadways have improved today, there is increased risk for the development of black ice in the overnight hours affecting tomorrow morning's commute. Roads - Crews continue to plow and salt area streets and main intersections. Crews will work throughout the evening to treat streets.CDOT has responded to more than 100 calls for service, mainly around elevated roadways. Tomorrow morning's commute is expected to be hazardous due to the accumulation of black ice. CDOT thanks the public for staying off roads as it has aided in street treatment. CDOT advises that street temperatures will not rise above freezing until after 9 a.m. tomorrow. Residents are urged to delay their morning commute if possible.
Trash and recycling - Solid Waste Services expect to operate a normal schedule tomorrow. They will evaluate residential street conditions early tomorrow morning prior to making a decision. Residents are advised to put garbage, recyclables and bulky items at curbside. Items will be picked up by close-of-business Friday.??‹??‹
Airport - ??‹The airport remains open and operational, and staff is working with our partners to assist customers. The aiport continues to experience delays and cancellations. Travelers should check with their air carriers regarding flight cancellations and delays.??‹ Additional system-wide activity can be found here. All three parallel runways are open. Runway 5/23 remains closed for de-icing operations. TSA wait times range between 10 to 15 minutes. As of 10:49 a.m., 3,739 passengers had processed through the security checkpoints. CLT's irregular operations plan remains in place. The airport, airlines and other partners continue to assist stranded passengers. More than 2,000 passengers spent last night in the terminal. Approximately 1/3 were from three international flights. Cots, mats, pillows and blankets were distributed. Some aiport concessionaires and checkpoints extended hours to accommodate travelers and will continue to do so as needed.
Buses and light rail - ??‹All CATS buses are running their regular routes. No buses are on deour routes. LYNX light rail will be operating its normal service this evening and tomorrow. Consult the Rider Alerts page for any schedule changes.???
Police - CMPD continues to maintain high staffing levels to assist in emergency response.
Warming stations and shelters - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management and Mecklenburg County Community Support Services reopened the warming station today at 10 a.m. The Warming Station is located at the Mecklenburg County Homeless Resource Center (HRC), 618 North College Street at the Hal Marshall Annex. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., those needing to seek shelter through the night will be provided transportation to one of the accommodations provided by our local partners listed below.
