Service updates as of 2 p.m. ??‹??‹

The City of Charlotte and agency partners are advising all residents to prepare for snow and icy conditions throughout the area tonight and through tomorrow morning as a result of the winter storm arriving this evening. Residents are strongly encouraged to follow the weather forecast closely for possible distruptions to traavel, the delivery of City and County services, as well as various events taking place.

During this inclement weather period, it is advised to remain off of the roads as much as possible and ensure home generators are working in case of a prolonged loss of power.

Roads - Charlotte Department of Transportation has been pre-treating roads since Tuesday. Street maintenance crews are working 12-hour shifts, possibly through Friday morning, targeted salt brining on bridges and main roads; hospital entrances; assistance to police, fire and MEDIC; emergencies that are called in; and collector street.

Trash and recycling - Solid Waste Services' Special Services Unit completed sidewalk salting in uptown this morning and will monitor weather and street conditions to determine if further delays are necessary. 

Airport - ??‹The airport is preparing for possible winter precipitation Wednesday evening through Thursday and is working closely with its airline and airport partners. Focus of preparedness efforts is on airfield and landslide areas. This includes taxiways, runways, ramp area, airport roadways, bridges, overpasses, elevated surfaces and parking areas. Staff is prepared to activate deicing operations when the need arises and will monitor and respond to any weather events in other cities that may affect Charlotte customers or operations. Staff will continually assess the weather forecasts and are prepared to mak??‹e necessary adjustments and deploy additional resources if required, including the airport's irregular operations plan. Travelers should check with their air carriers regarding flight cancellations and delays.??‹ Additional system-wide activity can be found here.

Buses and light rail - ??‹CATS will run bus service for as long as possible this evening. LYNX light rail has implemented its inclement weather plan and has placed staff on a 12-hour shift. CATS officials will monitor the weather through the night to determine the level of service on Thursday morning. Transit riders are advised to visit the CATS website??‹ for updates and schedule changes.

Charlotte Water - Residents are reminded to open cabinet doors under their sinks and let warm air circulate around pipes to prevent freezing. Also, know where your home's water shut-off valve is located.
