It is with a heavy heart that I send you this email. I sincerely hope that by now most of you have heard the sad news regarding our dear friend and community leader, Vickie Fewell. I apologize for using email to deliver such sad news, and have held off some time, allowing as many as possible to receive word in a more personal manner. However, we felt like we needed to go ahead and get the word out to those who may not have heard anything yet.
Vickie was involved in a tragic automobile accident Thursday evening, March 5 about 6:25 PM in Christiansburg VA. She was traveling to visit a friend when rain suddenly changed to freezing rain. As she was attempting to merge on the highway, she lost control of her vehicle, and was stuck head on by a semi-truck. She died instantly.
Funeral arrangements are still incomplete as far as I know.
Losing Vickie will be such a huge loss to so many of us on a personal level. It will also be a tremendous loss to the City of Charlotte, especially in the North and East side of the city. She has worked so hard for so many years to improve quality of life for all people beginning with serving in the Army and later pouring her energies and her heart into our communities. Her positive impact on this city and its residents is immeasurable.
