Welcome to Spring!

2015 Sustainable Living Series Update
Welcome to Spring! This is your Spring Guide to the 2015 Sustainable Living Series. In February, we launched the 2015 Sustainable Living Series with a year-long series of educational opportunities. As we enter the growing season, we have experienced an increase in registrations...and questions!  Here's a few tips to help you get the best out of our exciting series...
Registration
For your convenience, we provide online registration available through the Meckleburg Parks and Recreation eParks system. Registration links for each class are available at the Sustainable Living webpage here: mecklenburg.ces.ncsu.edu/sustain

The deadline for all Sustainable Living Series workshops occurs 2 days prior to the class. Early registration is encouraged, as we do not provide onsite registration.

Workshop Fees
We charge a nominal materials fee for each class. Class fees provide funds for gardening, cooking supplies, printing and other materials. In order to remain good stewards of resources, we prepare accordingly for the head count. Class fees are listed here, in our Sustainable Living Series print-friendly poster.
Home Food Preservation Class Prerequisite
Each home food preservation class in the Series  requires attendance at "The Science of Home Food Preservation" which was held on March 11, 2015. If you were unable to attend this class, you may join the waiting list  here to recieve an invitiation to a make-up class.
Why do we have a prerequisite?
You spoke and we listened. Participants reported that the lecture portion, which was provided in the past at the beginning of each canning class, felt redundant. Participants who attended multiple classes recieved a similar presentation at each class. Although we believe in repetition for emphasis, we are interested in creating an educational experience that meets your needs.

As a result, we decided to provide one class that covers the details of food safety principles for canning. This approach allows the instructor to commit more time to the hands-on experience in the canning classes to follow.
Class Size and Cap
Some of our classes have a maximum number of attendees. As educators, we want to assure that each topic is presented in manner that provides the best impact. Class caps are listed on the respective registration pages.
