CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Looking to add a four-legged member to your family? This might be just the weekend.

A two-day adoption fair with Humane Society of Charlotte and CMPD Animal Care and Control is making deals with the goal of finding homes for 200 dogs and cats in their care.

"It's a big challenge, but it's one we're willing to take on," said Jorge Ortega, vice president of operations for the Humane Society.

The baseball-themed event is called "Sliding into Home" and potential parents can toss baseballs or beanbags for a discount on their adoption.

Ortega recommends bringing the whole family to find just the right pet for everyone. Counselors will help patrons pick one that fits their lifestyles.

"Bring the entire family," he advised, "Bring the kids, bring everyone who lives in the household, so this way it's a group decision and not just the individual."

The adoption event runs Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Avenue – off Remount Road near I-77 – and CMPD Animal Care and Control at 8315 Byrum Drive, in west Charlotte.
