2015 Property Tax Bills Going Out this Month
??‹
Mecklenburg County will begin mailing 2015 property tax bills during the week of Aug. 10, 2015. Tax bills are being sent for real property, individual personal property, and business personal property taxes. These bills are due Sept. 1, 2015. Tax bills can be paid without interest through Jan. 5, 2016.
There are 368,834 tax bills that will be mailed. For certain properties whose value or tax records are still being processed by the Tax Assessor’s Office, the respective tax bills will subsequently be mailed as they are processed.
All tax bills paid on or after Jan. 6, 2016 will be assessed interest at a rate of two percent for the first month, and 0.75 percent every month thereafter until paid. For those with a mortgage escrow account, their real property tax bills are typically sent directly to the mortgage holder for payment, with the owner receiving a notice from the Office of the Tax Collector.
The reverse side of the tax bill contains a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions. Property owners who have further questions concerning their 2015 tax bill can contact CharMeck311 by dialing 311 within Mecklenburg County or 704-336-7600 from outside the County. Additional information can be found at http://tax.charmeck.org.

- In person: Pay at the Tax Collector’s office located in the Robert L. “Bob” Walton Plaza, 700 East Stonewall Street, Charlotte NC, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Only cash, money order, or check payments are accepted. Make checks payable to the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector.
- Online Banking: Payments are sent from your bank. A payment may take up to four business days, after it has been authorized, before it is applied to the tax bill. The entire 24 digit tax bill number must be entered in the online bill pay account number field to ensure proper payment posting to the tax bill. The payment will be rejected and returned to the financial institution if the tax bill number is missing or incorrect. Tax bill numbers from previous payments must be deleted and replaced with a current tax bill number for each payment. Note: This payment option is not recommended for tax payments. Any interest accrued due to a rejected payment cannot be removed from the tax bill.
*A service fee of 2.35% or a minimum of $1.95 is charged for credit card or debit card payments. There is no service fee for eCheck payments.
