Obituary for Charlotte Fletcher McCotter

Charlotte Fletcher McCotter
Charlotte McCotter, 77, a long time resident of the Charlotte area died Monday the 24th of August 2015 at her home surrounded by loved ones after a hard-fought battle against cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11am at the Weddington Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, 3799 Forest Lawn Drive. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCotter was born in Durham on August 21, 1938 to the late Mary and Walter Fletcher. Charlotte was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Charlotte, better known as Manny to hundreds of friends, customers, and family, loved spending time with family. She treasured opportunities to feed people and Thanksgiving was one of her favorite holidays; in fact she saved every wishbone. It wouldn't surprise anyone to see her traveling between ball fields or dance recitals to ensure she saw everyone! Manny sacrificed to give her family their every need and desire. She loved spending nights in the cabin with her children on the coast: fishing, swimming and making memories. Manny enjoyed summers with her grandchildren reading their homemade newspapers, special trips to Pizza Hut, and sleepovers. The grandchildren fondly remember the big van and the way it would zoom when Manny was behind the wheel. She and her siblings share a special bond that only the deepest dreams are made of and could always depend on each other. Charlotte made all the cheerleading uniforms for her sisters and even helped them pass home economics. McCotter Charlotte's Alterations held a special place in her heart as she helped with everyone's alternation needs; at times it seemed like the entire city! Many of the city’s dance recital costumes came to life because of her. All the patches for CMPD and Charlotte Fire department came through the shop as well as alterations for the movie Talladega Nights. From the most elaborate wedding gowns to patches for baseball uniforms she did it all with her natural talent. Ultimately her heart was with Jesus and now lives in her eternal home, Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill McCotter, her parents: Mary and Walter Fletcher, son-in-laws: Buddy Starling and Joe Caudle, siblings: John Fletcher, Ray Fletcher, and Barbara Odom, great-grandchildren: Richard and Rosemary Starling.

Her survivors include her four children: Diane Starling, Sonja Caudle, Greg McCotter and his wife Cindy, and Tom McCotter and his wife Dana.
