Career readiness training certification for high school students is now underway
If you know a high school student who needs a summer job or internship, let them know that now is the time to sign up to take the Mayor's Youth Employment Program Career Readiness Training Certification!
Certification classes will be held during the school day at 16 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) campuses, with one additional training opportunity being added for students outside these campuses. Career Development Coordinators (CDC) at the schools will be able to enroll students and direct them to the most appropriate training date.
While all CMS youth are eligible to enroll in the training while space is available, priority may be given to students who are 16 to 18 years old.

Healthy Homes program aims to keep local homes safe
Did you know that if you qualify for the City of Charlotte's LeadSafe Charlotte program, you might also qualify for the Healthy Homes program?
Healthy Homes provides local families with a free home assessment that identifies up to 29 health and safety hazards. The assessment report includes detailed explanations of each issue, information about why it may be of concern and suggested actions that the homeowner can take to resolve any identified problems. Examples of potential issues that may be identified include damp and mold growth, excess cold, falling on stairs, entry by intruders and more.
Healthy Homes will repair some of the identified issues for free -- as funding allows -- with the property owner being responsible for the remaining items. Applicants eligible for assistance under Healthy Homes must:
- Own a home that was built before 1978
- Have a household income that does not exceed 80 percent of the area median income for their household size
- Have an elderly person or child under six years old living in the home
For more information about how local homeowners can get assistance through the Healthy Homes and LeadSafe Charlotte programs, please contact Diane Adams at 704-336-2911.
