Charlotte Career Discovery Day

Be a superhero for local teens. Register for Charlotte Career Discovery Day.

The City of Charlotte, in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and community partners, needs your help.

Local vendors are invited to participate in next year's Charlotte Career Discovery Day, a career exploration event that attracts thousands of Mecklenburg County high school students each year. This year's theme -- Superheroes of Youth Workforce Development -- highlights the superhero-like work our employers undertake when they invest in the career development of our youth.

We invite your business to join the team this year and showcase your career to the next generation of employees on April 13, 2016. To learn more and register by Dec. 15, please visit [myep.charlottenc.gov]myep.charlottenc.gov.

Neighborhood & Business Services staff help local family in need

Housing and Code

Neighborhood & Business Services (NBS) recently helped a family in need by rehabilitating their home after a house fire.

Through the City’s Safe Home Program, the home has been completely rehabilitated and the family received furniture and a new refrigerator from Crisis Assistance Ministry, which code enforcement inspectors helped deliver.

One NBS employee even used her own money to purchase a dresser and collected sheets, comforters and a mattress donated by her neighbors for the family.

“It feels so good to practically have a brand new home and furniture, all thanks to these wonderful people. We’re so proud of it and thank everyone and all City staff that made this happen," a family member said.

City of Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership, Inc. partner to provide housing for veterans

The City of Charlotte and The Housing Partnership recently celebrated the opening of Tyvola Crossing Phase II, a 20-unit supportive housing development for low-income military veterans and their families. Located in the West Boulevard Corridor, the $2.8 million apartment community will be within walking distance of the new Department of Veterans Affairs health care center that is expected to be completed in 2016.

All of Tyvola Crossing Phase II apartments are currently occupied and nearly half of the new tenants were formerly homeless before moving into the apartments. The City of Charlotte provided $1.7 million to the project with the rest of the funding provided by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and NeighborWorks.
