Community Garden and Grants Workshop to be held Feb. 16
|
|
Spring is right around the corner. Have you and your neighbors considered planting a community garden?
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and NC Cooperative Extension will host a community garden and grants workshop. Stop by to learn how to grow a happy, healthy and engaged neighborhood through community gardening.
Community gardens are one of the top three amenities requested by Mecklenburg County residents. In addition to local and healthy food production, community gardens provide opportunities for you and your neighbors to meet, share stories and develop skills.
Here's what you can expect to learn at the workshop:
- Gardening techniques
- Planting guidelines to help you learn when and what to plant
- How to secure a plot in an existing community garden
- Information about free and low-cost resources designed to help you establish and maintain your garden
Eligible neighborhoods can also apply for a Neighborhood Matching Grant to fund a variety of community projects, including a community garden.
The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 E. 4th Street in Charlotte.
To RSVP, learn more or evaluate your neighborhood's Neighborhood Matching Grants eligibility, please contact Atalie Zimmerman at azimmerman@charlottenc.gov or call 704-336-4594.
