Keep Charlotte Beautiful schedules cleanup events around Charlotte

From March 1 to May 31, Keep Charlotte Beautiful will participate in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the country's largest community improvement program. This national program engages millions of volunteers who take action in their communities to create positive change and lasting impact.

In celebration of the Charlotte edition of the Great American Cleanup, Keep Charlotte Beautiful will host cleanup events throughout Charlotte, all of which will begin at 9 a.m. and start at the following locations:

  • Historic Camp Greene Neighborhood Cleanup
    Saturday, March 12
    EMCO, Inc. (2318 Arty Avenue)

  • Central Avenue Cleanup
    Saturday, March 19
    Wells Fargo Parking Lot (1616 Central Avenue)

  • Dairy Branch Stream Cleanup
    Saturday, April 9
    Freedom Park

  • Beatties Ford/LaSalle Cleanup
    Saturday, April 30
    Meeting Location: To be announced

  • Pence Road Cleanup
    Saturday, May 7
    Meeting Location: Hickory Grove Elementary School
    6709 Pence Road

  • District 4 Clean Your Block Party
    Saturday, May 14
    Meeting Location: To be announced

In keeping with the program's theme -- Clean Your Block Party -- you're invited to participate in the Great American Cleanup by organizing your own event (i.e., hosting a tree planting party, adopting a local city street or cleaning up your neighborhood). When you organize your event, Keep Charlotte Beautiful will provide supplies to your volunteers.

Plaza Midwood brewery recently received $18,000 business grant

Local business owner Phil Buchy recently received an $18,000 Facade Improvement Grant to improve his building's appearance.

Buchy's business, which is located at 1906 Commonwealth Avenue in the Plaza Midwood Business District, used the grant funding to transform the old Brodt Music building to Legion Brewing Company. 

NBS' Facade Improvement Grant assists businesses and commercial property owners with improving their building's appearance. The grant also helps bring signs, parking and landscaping into conformance with current City codes. The next application deadline is Sunday, May 15.
