I was speaking with Montclaire's President today and she mentioned today was the last day for both our neighborhoods to apply for Matching Grants.
As I expected the new Quality of Life Study (which comes out every 2 years) has both Madison Park and Montclaire now above the median income level for applying for grants.
Matching Grants allowed us to do many things over the years.
Our Street Name signs,
National Night Out in 2008,
Auto CMPD Identiciation Program
Madison Central Park 25K project
Pinewood / Madison Park Community Partnership Grant
Freedom School for Pinewood 3 year program
Madison Park has litrally been awarded Thousands of Dollars over the last 15 years through the Neighborhood Matching Grant Program.
Now we make too much money. That plus all the low end apartments have been coming down, and new development going in such as Abby Place. That raised our income level, and value of our homes.
I spoke with our Madison Park President to make sure she was aware we were no longer eligible for Matching Grants. She said the board discussed it at their board meeting this year, but they decided againt applying for one last grant this year.
Anyway that leaves our community now with the only options on projects to self fund, or find sponsors to help pay for the projects.
At least the treebanding grants can still be applied for since all City of Charlotte neighborhoods can apply for the $3000 regardless of matching grant eligibility.
Grants were wonderful for us while they lasted!
