Matching Grant Program Revised

Posted in: Madison Park
The Neighborhood Matching Grants program has updated its guidelines.
Here's what you should know.

The City of Charlotte's Neighborhood Matching Grants program has awarded matching funds to neighborhood-based organizations since 1992, helping to make Charlotte's neighborhoods better places to live, work, play and learn.

Charlotte City Council recently adopted updated Neighborhood Matching Grants program guidelines, which will be effective beginning with the upcoming June 1 deadline.

Here's what you should know:

  • Application Deadlines. Neighborhood Matching Grants applications are now due three times each year on March 1, June 1 and Sept. 1. Please note the next round of applications are due on Wednesday, June 1. (Start your application.)

  • Organizational eligibility. Neighborhood organizations, homeowners associations and neighborhood coalitions that have been organized for more than six months are now eligible to apply. Also, ineligible organizations may now partner with eligible organizations. (Minimum criteria for eligible organizations can be found in Appendix A of the program guidelines.)

  • Geographic eligibility. There are now two tiers of eligibility based on median assessed property value. (Review your eligibility.) If your organization is outside of the highlighted area, you may still be eligible based on individual neighborhood boundaries. If you need help determining your eligibility, contact Neighborhood Matching Grants Program Manager Atalie Zimmerman for assistance.

  • Volunteer match updates. You can now count up to 20 hours of related pre-application activities toward your neighborhood match. Additionally, a minimum of 50 percent of all funds granted must be matched through volunteer time.

  • Project opportunities. Additional opportunities have been added and multiple projects may now be included in one application. Review the program guidelines to learn about project opportunities and requirements in your eligibility tier

Some good changes for Matching grant program, unfortunately Madison Park no longer qualifies for regular matching grants.

Treebanding grants are still open for our area since they do not go by median income level of an area.
