The City of Charlotte prides itself on having a strong sense of American pride and patriotism, as evidenced by various Independence Day celebrations. The city also shares a unique commonality with the holiday; the numerical similarities between the July 4 holiday, 7/04, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg's predominant area code, (704).

To celebrate the day, our goal is to have the entire Charlotte community connect by sharing their Independence Day in Charlotte on social media through the hashtag, #704th (seven-oh-fourth).

So, on Independence Day, tag your family photos and fireworks videos with #704th on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to show how you celebrate the birth of the United States as an independent nation, in Charlotte.

City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County offices - Closed on Monday, July 4

CharMeck 311 – The call center will be closed July 2-4. Residents can still call for water, sewer, storm water and animal emergencies via an automated service that dispatches assistance. Requests may also be made online 24/7 at charmeck.org/services.

Solid Waste Services - Collection services will operate under a normal schedule on Monday, July 4.

CATS - On Monday July 4, 2016, all Charlotte Area Transit System bus routes, including Airport Connector Routes 590 & 591, and the LYNX Blue Line will operate on a Sunday schedule in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The Gold Rush and all other express services will not operate on Monday, July 4.

On Monday July 4, 2016, CATS Pass Sales & Information offices at the CTC, and the CATS Call Center will be closed. On Tuesday July 5, the CATS Pass Sales & Information offices and CATS Call Center will resume their regular schedule. Learn more.
