Labor Day Holiday Collection Schedule

The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will collect garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulky waste on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.

Residents are reminded of the following tips to ensure collection:

  • Bag all garbage before placing it in the rollout cart. Do not overfill the cart.
  • Remove food/liquid residue from all recyclable containers before placing them in the recycling cart. Tear (not fold) cardboard into small pieces that will fit loosely into your cart with the lid able to close. Do not bag recyclables.
  • Trimmings from shrubs and trees must be no longer than five feet in length and no larger than four inches in diameter.
  • Place leaves in untied plastic bags or uncovered trash cans (not City-issued rollout carts).
  • Place collection materials curbside by 6:30 am on collection day. Rollout carts must be removed from curbside by midnight the same day.
  • Place collection items within six feet of the curb. Please do not block the sidewalk.

Call 311 (704.336.7600) or visit curbit.charlottenc.gov to schedule bulky waste collection.

Got Yard Waste?

Autumn begins September 22 and you may start to see an increase in your yard waste. Remember, Solid Waste Services collects leaves and other yard waste on the same day as your garbage and recycling collection. Please use the following tips to properly prepare yard waste for collection:

  • Place leaves in untied plastic bags or uncovered trash cans. If leaves are placed in plastic bags, your bags will be collected and not left at the curb for reuse.
  • Cut limbs, logs and brush to no more than five feet in length and four inches in diameter.
  • Piles should be separated and sorted by type of yard waste (limbs, loose debris, bagged/container or logs). Separate into piles that are no longer than five feet and no higher than three feet. There should be at least two feet between piles.
