How will changes in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School’s Student Assignment Plan affect Madison Park.
On April 25th, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board of Education announced Phase II of their Student Assignment Review, which focuses on aligning home school attendance boundaries and high school feeder patterns.
This proposal affects Madison Park and the schools our children will be attending beginning in 2018. The board of education has proposed the following:
Assign the Pinewood Elementary attendance area east of South Blvd. from Sedgefield Middle and Harding University High to Alexander Graham Middle and Myers Park High.
Below you’ll find information about the board’s plans, processes and guiding principals; a list of scheduled meeting; and several ways that you can make your voice heard on the issue.
We encourage all of our neighbors to actively take part in CMS activities relating to these proposals. Please help us by sharing this e-mail with your neighbors who may not be currently on our mailing list.
The Board of Education is expected to vote on these proposals on Wednesday, May 24th.

2017-2018 Student Assignment Review Meetings & Info Sessions
To show the Board of Education that we support these proposed changes, it is important that as many neighbors as possible show up for the meetings below. These changes not only affect community members who have children, but the proposal may have a broad (positive) affect on all property values in our neighborhood.
- CMS is hosting an information session about the changes that will affect Madison Park on Monday, May 8th starting at 6:00 pm at Pinewood Elementary School, 805 Seneca Place. This session will focus on boundary recommendations and include information specific to our community. CMS Board of Education members may be present along with CMS staff. More information (including video from previous sessions) can be found here: CMS Information Session.
- The CMS Board of Education is hold public hearings on proposed boundary changes during their meetings on May 9th and May 24th. You may sign up to speak by calling Board Services, 980-343-5139 option 4. Requests will be accepted from the Friday prior to each public hearing through 12:00 p.m. the day of the meeting or at the dais prior to the call to order. If you plan to speak, sign up early! Space at the dais may be limited.
A group of Madison Park neighbors is planning to go to the May 9th meeting en masse to represent Madison Park. If you are interested in attending with the group, please contact Daniel Beckham or Stephanie Lawson Brooks |

How to let your voice be heard!
Here are some suggestions for providing your feedback about the Student Assignment Review to the CMS Board of Education:
• Come to the CMS Information Session on Monday, May 8th at Pinewood. As a neighborhood, we need to show up in large numbers. The proposal is not a done-deal. We don’t want CMS to see an empty room at our information session.
• Sign up to speak at either of the public hearings that the Board of Education is having on May 9th or the 24th.
• Call or e-mail Eric Davis, our CMS Board representative for District 5. His phone number is 704-651-0217. His e-mail address is ericc.davis@cms.k12.nc.us. Or, you can contact him online here.
• If you want to go a step further and contact all of the Board of Education members, you can find their contact info here: CMS Board Contacts Page.
• Add a post to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Facebook Page. If you do, hashtag your post #MadisonParkSupports2018SAR. (Yes, I realize that that is not a simple, elegant hashtag, but it will get the job done ?Ÿ˜?)
• If you are a Facebook or Twitter user, post something using the hashtag #MadisonParkSupports2018SAR. |
