Combine Sedgefield and Dilworth Elementary Schools; Change the Home School Boundaries for Sedgefield and Alexander Graham Middle Schools; and Change the Home School Boundaries for Harding and Myers Park High Schools

I move approval of the Superintendent’s proposal, to: ?—? effective with the 2018-2019 school year, combine the 2016-2017 Sedgefield Elementary and 2016-2017 Dilworth Elementary home school attendance areas, with students in the combined attendance area in grades K - 2 attending Sedgefield and students in grades 3 - 5 attending Dilworth; and ?—? beginning with students who will be in the 6th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, change the home school attendance boundary for Sedgefield Middle to include the entire 2016-2017 Dilworth and Eastover elementary attendance areas, which are currently assigned to Alexander Graham Middle; and ?—? beginning with students who will be in the 6th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, change the home school attendance boundary for Alexander Graham Middle to include the entire 2016-2017 Montclaire and Pinewood elementary attendance areas, which are currently assigned to Sedgefield Middle; and ?—? modify the attendance boundary for Myers Park High School by shifting all of the 2016-2017 Montclaire Elementary attendance area and the portion of the 20162017 Pinewood Elementary home school area east of South Boulevard from Harding University High to Myers Park High; and ?—? modify the attendance boundary for West Charlotte High School by shifting the portion of the 2016-2017 Dilworth Elementary attendance area north of South Boulevard from West Charlotte to Myers Park High.
Details of the Proposed Changes
1. Projected Effective Date Beginning of the 2018-2019 school year or beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, as detailed below.
2. Affected Areas a. The Sedgefield and Dilworth elementary home school attendance areas will be combined. Students in the combined attendance area will attend Sedgefield for grades K - 2 and Dilworth for grades 3 - 5. b. There is no change in the middle and high school continuation schools for students in the modified Sedgefield Elementary attendance area. Students living in this home school area will continue to attend Sedgefield Middle and Myers Park High.

Beginning with students who will be in the 6th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, the Eastover Elementary attendance area will attend Sedgefield Middle instead of Alexander Graham for middle school. The change in the middle school home school area does not affect students in 6th grade prior to the 20192020 school year. There is no change in the high school continuation school. These students will continue to attend Myers Park High. e. Beginning with students who will be in the 6th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, the Montclaire Elementary attendance area will attend Alexander Graham for middle school, instead of Sedgefield Middle. The change in the middle school home school area does not affect students in 6th grade prior to the 2019-2020 school year. f. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, the entire Montclaire Elementary attendance area will attend Myers Park for high school instead of Harding. g. Beginning with students who will be in the 6th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, the Pinewood elementary attendance area will attend Alexander Graham for middle school, instead of Sedgefield Middle. The change in the middle school home school area does not affect students in 6th grade prior to the 2019-2020 school year. h. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, students in the Pinewood attendance area east of South Boulevard will attend Myers Park for high school, instead of Harding. Students in the Pinewood attendance area west of South Boulevard will continue to attend Harding for high school.
3. Default Assignments: a. For rising 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at Sedgefield (for the 2018-2019 school year), the default assignment will be Dilworth Elementary. There is no option to remain at Sedgefield. b. For rising K, 1st and 2nd grade students at Dilworth (for the 2018-2019 school year), the default assignment will be Sedgefield. There is no option to remain at Dilworth. c. For students in the affected areas who will be in the 11th or 12th grades in the 2018-2019 school year, see Motion IV. C. 1.
