Lien Agent Entry Number Now Required on Permit Applications for Projects Costing more than $30,000
Since 2013, state law has required a mechanics lien agent on all residential and commercial projects costing $30,000 or more. The only exception to this is when a homeowner acts as his or her own contractor in building an addition onto a single-family home.
Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement requires lien agent contact information to be submitted as part of our online permit application process. This information is displayed on the permit placard we issue each customer for posting at the job site.
Effective immediately, we now require one additional piece of information -- a lien agent entry number.
This number is issued to the general contractor, and is readily available on the customer's paperwork from the lien agent. The lien agent should also be able to provide this number if contacted.
Our online permitting system now requires customers to enter a lien agent number if the project requires a lien agent.
For questions about the permitting process, please call 980-314-CODE. Dial 2123 when the recording starts for our Residential Technical Assistance Center (RTAC) or 2113 for the Commercial Technical Assistance Center (CTAC).
