Wowsy wow! it is chilly. You'd think we would be use to these ups and downs by now. I saw my first chick-a-dee this season and morning. They are back for winter. Blue Jays stocking up, cardinals, feeding more and risking closer contact with our generosity. Geese heading south each day and Juncos' back in force. Frosted as bathroom glass, is the meadow each morning again. Misty haze and smoky breath, against life's shadow baring evening lights. OH the treasures we seem to overlook as life leads us beyond, while relentlessly the seasons wax and wane.
"Been a bit under all this, the weather" as they say. But finally found my balance this evening. I'm sorry Mortimer, Big B., meant to get back to you with this Korean stain sooner. But Mort, Big B IS right regarding who was in office, though the occupation of the congressional stalls were irrelevant with the fact being The UN gave the go ahead for intervention after North Korea invaded south of the 38th Parallel. As for who did what. Well that's a horse we need to break and ride. The USSR took a stand above the 38 parallel, much as they did in Germany, (trying as they did then, once declaring war on Japan and helping to liberating those downtrodden Koreans, after 35 years of vicious Japanese rule) Fearing our "Imperialist Advances," WE and both Russia and China, established the parallel that The UN and FDR (Mc Arthur) agreed upon. The big problem after the end of World War Two, was that for some arguably strange reason, the US left some of those Japanese oppressors in control of the interim government that did not sit well with the freed Koreans, who didn't wish to be under any control other than their own governance NOT THE JAPANESE. There were many defections to the north, and hostilities were coming down the pike as the UN, Russia couldn't agree upon the US position while the communist and Imperialist? posturing came to a stalemate. Then, Stalin working behind the scenes supported a reunification attempt and invaded the south. What then I ask was Truman to do? The cold war was already under full banner and to just turn around was unacceptable. Things went rather well considering, that is until China sent her support for the north fearing an infusion by the US should the North fall to South control and Russian and North Korean strength was inadequate. Actually Big B, if Truman hadn't tied McArthur's and our Navy's hands for the length of time he did, the potential for the next world war might have been established much sooner. But arguably, Truman will suffer the what if's of that conflict on both sides of blame or praise. Your point is taken, though a tad misconstrued. Congressional authority had little to do with the inception or end of hostilities.
Many have felt over the decades that Truman didn't do enough to help reunite Korea once the Japanese were routed. To put all of Korea under it's democracy that actually should have gone full scale, to send China and Russia back within their own borders. Most feel that communist aggressions WILL always be the root cause of that conflict. Even going so far as to call Truman a weakling, scarred by his decision to roast Japanm in 1945. But be that as it may, the republican decision to sign an armistice was imminent. And, had there been a Democrat still in office, that wouldn't have changed A THING. But as before, Big B stands tall, the Dems did control the white house for over 20 years at that point, thought congressional majorities flipped back and forth and party posturing hadn't much if anything to do with the start of that war, but certainly did have a hand in it's end. The Vietnam war grew with a different scope of intent, but hostilities actually started much the same way and ended with as much US blame and disgrace? as Korea. War and agressions through desire will always be the worst mankind offers each other, instead of tollerance and compassion. Defense of our borders and people are not acts of agressive behavior.
God Bless.
