Kwpc and Mac fm going down hill

Posted in: Muscatine

I moved back to muscatine to find Kwpc changed, and not for the better!

What once was a radio staion fulled with up to date local news,is now a station that has news recorded and is out of date, the same goes for the weather, the same weather plays all day and is very out of date, and they never give the temp?

When John Blunk-peggy sensarino and  Kristin McHugh were on the air the news was live and up to date not like potters news, pre recorded

It sounds like much of it is recorded some where else?

What happened to Mark Lucas-Steve Bridges-Tim Scott-Jim Canada, etc

Ron Edwin is still there, but does not laugh and joke around, that was what made the station fun to listen to, hearing all the guys give you up to date news and weather and cut up at the same time, not pre recorded crap,do they think we can't tell?

As for Mac fm, sounds like a computer program, how sad, a far cry from Kfmh, again with its own cast of fine people and great music, mac cant hold a candle to the plus.

Tried this post earlier but it never got on,hopefully this one will.

Bill

Bill,

Flambo sold the AM station to John Schwandke, taking over January 1st, 1993. All the FM jocks left then and scattered. Jim Hunter went to Q106.5 in the Quad Cities.

Steve B. invested in a small AM station in Iowa City and last I knew, was there mornings. Mark L. quit radio but was doing some private DJ work for awhile. Tim S. stayed on through Schwandke's reign and left when Schwandke sold a couple years ago to Praire Commincations, who own several stations now in Eastern Iowa and West Illinois. Jim C. quit radio all together then when Schwandke bought it.

The MAC FM you hear is mostly computer-sent-down-the-line or pre-recorded. Only occasionally will there be a live jock to open a mike there anymore. It has changed several times since the new owners have had it. All local commercials are inserted on the FM side.

There will never be another 99plus.

If you remember Kristin M., you were listening during the Schwandke ownership. She left too, and went to the Stanley Foundation group. You can sometimes hear her on a NPR broadcast.

Sadly, Kyle Riley, of early 99plus fame, passed away in 05.

Just a skeleton crew now as far as jocks go. Ron is still there. I don't know how he perserveres.

Thanks for the trivia trip.

Radio will keep going downhill. Too much competition from Internet, CD, Ipod and Satellite. Not just small town radio, either. Word on the radio boards is that Clear Channel (WOC, WLLR, KMXG, KUUL) will have MASSIVE layoffs nationwide on January 20th.
