I hate it when I'm wrong! But in this case, on the bill I was wrong. I can only suggest gta move to Missouri where they have the lowest cigarette tax in the country

Why is it that a person in Iowa goes in and buys a carton of cigarettes for lets say 41.53 and when it rings on the register the total is 44.44? (7percent tax) How is it that a person is charged retail sales tax for paying a state and federal tobacco tax? If I were to go to Misourri or Minnesota to get smokes, (and I have) and pay 40 bucks it rings out on the register as a total of 40 bucks out the door..No sales tax. Why am I being charged a retail sales tax to pay a tax? Shouldnt it only be taxable on the tobacco product itself and not on total cost including the imposed taxes associated with the product? Seems to me like something isnt quite right with that... |

I don't know where you buy your cigarettes, but, I buy mine at the old Wareco, now Circle K, and, they haven't gone up a penny on the generic brand that I smoke. Smoked Marlboros for years, until they got to $3 a pack. IF I have the guts, since this new tax will be nation wide, I believe that, that'll be the end of my 47 year smoking career. Tom. |

Years and years ago, prices jumped from something like 50 cents a pack to 70. That is what drove me to quit at the time. Might be a good time to try and get off of the smokes......think of it as a really harsh incentive. |
