JOS/JOE: Re your: "....and yet you're saying that they were too scared to fix the country's problems...."
What problems?
Ha! That's funny. Let's review, shall we?
You provided a link to a NYTimes article in a post titled "Let's educate ourselves." The article, titled "Fannie Mae Eases Credit to Aid Mortgage Lending," points out that the Clinton administration, among others, pressured Fannie Mae to increase loans to low income and minority borrowers. Obviously, you believe that this easing of credit by Fannie Mae was a mistake otherwise you wouldn't have posted the article.
OR - Are we to believe that you, hiroad, who has a record of support for the conservative ideology and opposing anything liberal, was offering this up not as a way to trash a Democratic president but only as a source of information? If so, why did you not rebuff bigbrother when he posted:
The only proof we need to know and eductae ourselves on who started the financial mortgage mess across the nation is this sentnence from the article. And to think Clinton took credit for this back then...
Clearly you were intending to point out that this "problem" of the "financial mortgage mess," to use bigbrother's words, got its start during the Clinton administration and therefore he, Clinton, is really to blame.
Yet when I asked:
And the George W. Bush administration did what, exactly, to reverse this egregious error while they controlled not only the White House for eight years, but also the House and Senate for a period of four of those eight years?
You responded by saying that he couldn't do anything because of the possibility of a negative reaction from the media and some interest groups. And now, when pressed to explain those remarks, you respond with "What problems?"
Well, hiroad, I believe that you know very well "what problems" I'm referring to. They're the same problems you were referring to when you originally posted the article. But, since you either can't or are unwilling to explain what the Bush administration's response to all of this was, I'll do it for you. They responded by ignoring the situation and continuing the practice. Now you may be able to point out a few Republicans/conservatives who spoke out against the practice, but despite controlling the White House and both houses of the legislature, they did nothing to curb this activity. In fact, George W. Bush, himself, bragged during his 2005 State of the Union Address of what was later dubbed the "ownership society," stating that his administration had "raised homeownership to its highest level in history." And how did they do that? Well, by allowing the practice of irresponsible lending to continue, of course.
So I guess the question now is this: What's worse? Being the one responsible for starting something irresponsible or being the one who claimed credit for the outcomes of said irresponsible behavior by allowing it to continue unabated? Ponder that one for awhile, hiroad.
And now:
Ya just gotta love those liberals when they are wrong and can't defend themselves...they must go into personal-attack mode.
I can only assume that you're referring to lts' post because, as the only other liberal posting in this thread, I haven't called anybody names. But this is a funny statement from you, bigbrother, because many of us here remember the good old days when you called those you disagreed with "moron" and accused them of "riding the short bus." (Although he claimed that it wasn't wrong of him to use the term "short bus" because his brother has Down Syndrome.) Maybe, bigbrother, you should save us your sanctimonious scolding and remember that personal-attack mode was recently a preferred tool of your own.
