It is always easier to complain. A higher percentage of customers will complain compared to the percentage that will compliment. With that, I begin attempt #2 at a local post. The question is, if you have had a positive experience with a local retailer, what was it and with what retailer?
Here is my experience and I'm still telling people about it today.
When I moved to a house instead of an apartment, I knew I would need to cut the grass. Having little in funds, I bought one of those $100 Yard Machines at Wal-Mart. It worked OK for the first summer. The next year as I tried to start it, it went CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK and wouldn't spin the blade.
I took it to Phillips Brothers. The mechanic started it. CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK. He shut it off very quickly and told me it was DOA. It would cost more to fix than a new mower. I told him, "I guess I'll go get another one at Wal-Mart" because surely he didn't have new mower for $100. He said, "No, nothing new, but I have a few trade-ins." Trade ins? At a law mower dealer? "OK, what do you have?" He showed me a 3HP Snapper Hi-Vac walk behind with bag, just $115. Then he really sealed the deal. "I'll give you $15 for your old mower as I can use it for parts."
The next summer, I came in to have the blades sharpened. I asked him about buying a side discharge chute so I could save time mowing without having to stop to empty the bag. He told me, "You know, I think I have the plug for your mower. You put it in the bag chute so you can use the mower without the bag." I asked him, "how much?" He said, "nothing." I insisted on giving him $5 for it. (It looked brand new.)
That was 5 years ago, and that mower still works like a charm. I bring it in every now and then for a tune-up. Thanks, Phillips Brothers!
