Scott Brown Democrat?

Posted in: Muscatine

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A modest job-creation bill advanced in the Senate on Monday as the chamber's newest Republican bucked his party and sided with Democrats on a $15 billion package of tax cuts and highway spending.

Republican Scott Brown joined four other Republicans, 55 Democrats and two independents to overcome a procedural hurdle that sets up a final vote later this week.

Brown was widely hailed as a conservative hero after his surprise victory in Massachusetts last month gave Republicans enough seats to block most Democratic legislation.

His election prompted President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats to call for increased bipartisanship, and an earlier version of the bill was written with Republican input.

But key Republicans withdrew their support after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid scaled it back and its prospects for passage were uncertain.

Obama called the vote an "important step forward" and vowed to work with both major parties to pass legislation.

With this vote and the fact he's Pro-Choice, he's looking much like a Democrat.

Scott Brown looking like a Dem?   Not really.     I take him at his word.  He campaigned on the promise that he would vote for what was best for Massachussetts.  He also swore to work across party lines.   Here is his swearing in speech where he says that again.

I would say he's much more like a Tea Party type.   Not aligned with either party in priniciple, but wanting what's best for the country and tired of the lies, power plays and corruption.

I know the Dems (and some of the Repubs) don't want to believe that the Tea Party people are not aligned with the Republicans, but they say they truly are not.

At least he does what he says he will do, unlike the Obumbler and most of the Dems in office now.

By the way, I'm not a Tea Party member, but do respect them.

By the way, what he voted for was to move the bill forward for debate.  I think this means he wants to get it all out in the open and learn as much as he can about it, before casting his vote for or against its passage.   I imagine he thinks that is what is best for his state.

His pro-choice stance has alot of caveats that true Libs don't stand for...so not really.

As for this effort....it was a procedural gaff that he reached across the aisle for to demonstrate what he promised anyway. So, he's really looking much like the Republican who promised just that, to get elected by many indy-liberals from his district. He HAD to show them something...and as it happens....this is just a small jobs bill that could affect his district.

I'd have to say he delivered...however, the actual vote comes later this week, maybe tomorrow.

Gosh a willikers....if every reach across an aisle in Congress changes the looks of what party they represent; then that has happened quite alot from both sides.

There was a poster here a few years ago from northern Iowa who looked like an America-hating communist with every post made. Does that make him one?

Weak try, there, TP.
