Here's a good summary on nobama's situation....

The Constitution contains the term "natural born" for a US president. This term was used to prevent anyone with the possibility of having a foreign allegiance from becoming commander-in-chief of US forces, for obvious reasons. A person with dual citizenship owes allegiance to both the US and the foreign government. They are required to obey the laws of both countries, which of course for a sitting US President would be disastrous to the US nation.

The term "natural born" is used to mean a singular allegiance to one and only one nation. 

(Note that it is unique that the US president is also the commander-in-chief, which entrusts the office of president with great power, so a concern of allegiance was on the minds of the framers of the Constitution.)

All NATURALIZED citizens have to take an oath of ALLEGIANCE, to confirm they only have allegiance to the US and no other country. But this is not enough to fully repudiate possible allegiances to other countries.

So "allegiance" is the key here -- at the time of the writing of the US Constitution, "natural born" was a term carefully chosen to define that allegiance - it means having a singular allegiance that derives from one's having been born of the soil of the nation - in this case, the US nation. This results in a kind of "super-allegiance".
That is what the framers meant, and Constitutional lawyers have always recognized this to be the meaning.

So according to the Constitution, which explicitly and unambiguously uses with the term "natural born" when referring to qualifications for someone to be the US president, no, a US president cannot have dual citizenship. They must have that singular allegiance that can only be derived from having been born of US soil - "born here".

Hi Lucy,

Well not to be one to say I told ya so but when you first arrived here I did welcome you with a warning about the strong perspectives of the diverse groups here.  Although your posts to tend to be bit windy, (sadly I don't read some in their entirety) you do make some valid points.  Please don't allow yourself to be caught up with a few pat on the back people though.  Sometimes the pat on the back hides a knife and they will not hesitate to use it when it benefits them.

Most cell companies now have wireless internet available.  Mine offers it for $29.99 a month and I've often wondered why I still may MPW what I am paying them.  A simple task to hook a laptop via USB to your cell.  Hopefully your health issues clear up but from what I've read it seems it is chronic and I can only hope you continued longevity.  Myself, I am a true "fence rider" or as I like to think of it an independent thinker.  I refuse to vote either side of the fence, I cast my ballot for the person I feel will do the best job.  Sadly the recent events will see the consequences this next election as I am unwilling to vote for any democrat come this November.

Thank you::: sorry I do get so windy::: and for all your kindness and yes, you did::: as well as a few others, tell me what can be expected. I have indeed felt the hidden blade a time or two and nearly convinced me to leave. I met a wonderful person here as a consolation at least, and by now several others, but at least one and I have been writing and trading photos and such outside this place for about as long as I have been hooked in. I may not know the whole story here but like my gramm before me, found those who at least show they have a heart in spite of the facade of this place, interact in such a warm way. They are like an affectionate kitten for the mind and soul. These cats make you want to purr too and come round time and time again for another chin scratch and tingling stroke along the back. That's been a reward here.

I realize there are services outside Dial-Up,LAN,and DSL but the biggest problem is that we don't own a computer and that where I have been and will be returning, is several miles from town. So when I do get there, we will have to save a bit to buy a pc and pay extra to get on line and if my husband actually goes for it::: I will write and BB, I will be me. I finally understood thanks to Fox what this "Davie" idea stands for and sir, I am not actually stupid, clueless and certainly was warned about you and your rude and overbearing demeanor. My gramm didn't specify this "Davie" thing you have going on and I'd be sick to be so wrapped up in whom ever this person was and what he did to you? Although::: she did tell me she was constantly refereed to as someone else and. Sorry, wrong again. Instead of rescinding your "absolute" wrong comment, there now comes a boatload of pointless constitutional drivel that hasn't a thing to do with Obama in the first place. Hey! I never liked the guy, true. But until he's proved to be the one who basically destroyed our economy and or not a citizen:::ask GM:::he's the president and that's that.  I did look it up at Mallory's request and unless this is the BIGGEST conspiracy in US history, and the whole US government is party to it :::BB you seem way too smart for that to stick:::this man was born in Hawaii. Remember, Bush did not blow up the towers.

Fox:::what can we say about Fox, it will be a pleasure beyond all comprehension to ignore and not have to see your snide, I know I know, rude, and irrelevant drivel. Hope the prostate gets better too.

Mallory, I know we disagreed at times and through common sense we agreed too. Heck I even had to agree with the larger self assigned minds and rulers of this site. But ultimately the center of the fence-line always put me back and away from their favor. That's fine too, because if we're anything but center minded, we're nothing. So to those who think there should be sides in this game, they might just find themselves alone on one team without a game.

Wroe, I wish we had more interaction here. Thank you! I'm pleased another of this community sees it. I can be a ditz at times, but kinda revere openness. I think obscurity is a lie in itself and find I cannot opologize for some openness outside of some words from a faceless, false name without at least some human commonality and it's elements to bond with. If some of these guys don't like that, it's just sad and I'm unapologetic. You are right also, should we get on-line in a couple months, I see no reason at all to come as anyone else.

And, agree or disagree I have had a wonderful few months in this town and among these pages, strong minds and good hearts. In spite of my personal issues of health, money and a little insensitivity by a few, I actually see what gramm saw too. Most of you are great and so funny, my problems seemed to vanish much of that time as we banter over the fences.  Oh yes:::Drunken Fool, you said once that you read my words like a British girl. You should continue to do so. I often talk like Jane Leeves to crack up my hubby and he even says I resemble her a bit.from::: Frasier.

You see, since my world hurts most of the time when I'm not in my roses, daisies, and Blue birds world, with our daughter and cat, I had little else to enjoy. But here, there were others too that reached back though they didn't know who or what, but still trusted and said I'm so sorry and thank you once in a while::: I better quit now before I start to cry.
