I'm worried for the rights of the people, but where was the Tea Party crowd? Isn't the whole premise of the Tea Party movement that overreaching government poses a grave threat to individual freedom? It seems to me that a law allowing individuals to be detained and interrogated on a whim -- and requiring legal residents to carry identification documents, as in a police state -- would send the Tea Partyers into apoplexy. Or is there some kind of exception if the people whose freedoms are being taken away happen to have brown skin and might speak Spanish?

Let's think about your very first sentence - "I'm worried for the rights of the people..."
So what about the rights of AZ citizens who are NOT illegal - what rights do they have? What about the rights of the rancher that was murdered by an illegal? What about the rights of his family who now must deal without their loved one but also live in fear of another attack by these gangs of illegals who have infiltrated our country. This family didn't even live right on the border. What about the rights of the deputy who was shot by illegals when he found their drugs and they began shooting at him? What about the rights of ordinary people who live in AZ and are scared witless to even carry out their everyday business for fear that they will be ambushed, carjacked, robbed, beaten or worse.
So, TP, are you only worried about people who are in this country illegally - I repeat - illegally? Or perhaps in your zeal to defend those who are indefensible you have forgotten about those who have every right to live in peace in this great USA? If you would be so kind as to think about those who have chosen to live within the law and THEIR rights, you may find just a tiny reason to look at that side of the issue.
