ARMED FORCES DAY

Posted in: Muscatine

In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. It falls near the end of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May.

The day was created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard – following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but observance of these days, especially within each particular service, continues to this day.

The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions and air shows. The United States' longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, WA. In 2009, Bremerton celebrated the 61st Armed Forces Day Parade.

God bless our service men and women in our all-volunteer military who choose to serve in our miltary branches regardless of the risks involved! Thanks for your service! Happy Armed Forces Day.

Today, I'm honoring all those military members who I know personally, and all those who I don't.  We owe a huge, probably unpayable, debt to all service members past and present.

The military brass claims that an average sergeant in the Army with four years of service and one dependent would receive $52,589 in annual compensation. This figure includes basic pay, housing, and subsistence allowances, as well as tax benefits.

Meanwhile, a U.S. postal letter carrier, with no supervisory or hazardous duty, makes approximately $80,000 a year when all benefits are factored in."

1.  Who gives us the most "bang for our buck"?

2.  Watch what the current doofus administration does relative to our military vs. the unions, not what they say.

Well, well...just thought I'd point out that US Armed Forces Day came and went without one liberal member here caring to pass on good tidings to our military branches on their day of honor, and demonstrating their respect for the military.

Typical and expected...just seems sad to me.
