The Pompous Congressman to His Constituent
Come vote for me for goodness' sake
That I might all the taxes take
To spend on trips and luxuries
In ways you might call fantasies.
And I will sit left of the aisle
To doze and harumph all the while
The sham assemblage congregates
And pork and kickback legislates.
And I will write thee laws so dense
That of which none can make much sense
With pages counted by their weight
So time cannot permit debate.
A debt I'll build for your grandkids
So big that naught can act as skids
Until it grows beyond the scope
Of GNP and change and hope.
A future wearisome and bleak
With unions strong and armies weak;
And if these things your thoughts should sway
Come vote for me election day.
Pretentious twits shall regale us
With rhetoric most glorious
If these concepts thy mind may move,
Then vote for me and say, "Approve!"
Before the teens have gone their way
