I have always been an entrepreneur. Even as a kid I had lemonade stands and sold greeting cards. In seventh grade or so I thought up this idea of selling TP insurance at Halloween. I went around and for five dollars if your house got TPed or your windows got soaped I would come clean it up. If you didn’t buy… well let’s just say at that tender age I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of the word “Extortion.” I went around the neighborhood and sold my TP insurance. But my Uncle Dean wouldn’t buy a policy. So come Halloween night I nailed his house but good. So the next year I sold it again, and again I couldn’t get uncle skinflint to buy a policy. So I once again did a number on his yard. I had a couple of other claims to clean up but it was no big deal. The third year Uncle Dean bought a policy and I was ecstatic. WAS I A SALEMAN OR WHAT? So the day after Halloween I get a call from Uncle Dean. He needed me to come over and clean his yard.
“But you didn’t get hit, I didn’t…”
So I went over and his yard was nothing but toilet paper. The trees, the bushes and every window was soaped. I spent the whole day there cleaning his yard and he stood there the whole time making sure it got done right. Then come to find out some time later, he did it himself just so I would have to come over and clean his yard. That was the last year I sold my TP insurance. True story.
