The assumption that the Republicans were going to win a huge number of races was fueled by the right wing media and talk show guys. It was intended to discourage Democrats from running or voting. You could add it to the 8 myths you posted elsewhere. One reason the races are now close, is people are starting to realize all that propaganda isn't true. It's tough to manitain the illusion forever. You can't fool all of the people all of the time. Another is the Republicans selected some pretty far out nutty incompetant candidates. They deceived themselves into thinking any fool could win. And some will. A third reason is some of the old time Republicans are disgusted with the nuts and are not working very enthusiastically or contributing as much money to elect them. All that money coming in from the unknown sources is all that is keeping them in many of the races. |
