BB...there was a pretty good article in the Journal last week written by the new sports guy Matt Coss. He described the demise of the bowl system caused by over exposure, too many teams, too many bowls, and the entire BCS concept. Seems like a shame that those in charge of college football tried to fix something that wasn't really broken, and that in its former state generated huge fan followings and excitement centered around New Years day.
I don't think it had anything to do with "fixing" anything. It was about getting more TV dollars.
As for Iowa, I believe that most fans in the state are not interested in supporting a team that includes thugs and drug dealers, and would rather see young men of good character play hard, even if it means sacrificing a few wins each season.
It's always sad that the whole team suffers for what a few did. Of course one always wonders about how many of them knew what was going on and said or did nothing. Or how many others were involved but didn't get caught. And how much the coaching staff knew and if they just looked the other way.
They do seem to address it appropriately when it becomes public.
