Place for dog to run?

Posted in: Muscatine

I have older friends who are temporarily caring for a large Golden Retriever. They have a fenced yard, but not all that big and they're looking for someplace they could let the dog run. The area would have to be fenced since the dog is young and not totally trained yet. Somebody told them to try some of the school playgrounds, but generally there are kids playing. These are very responsible dog owners and would never dream of leaving a "deposit." They'd just like to find a good place for the dog to really be exercised. It runs in their yard, but doesn't really have the space to run flat-out.

They'll have the dog through the summer until it's owner is recovered and can take the dog back. So, if anybody has any ideas of somewhere locally, they would appreciate it. They don't drive, so unless somebody takes them, the dog parks in surrounding cities aren't a real option except occasionally.

Thanks to anybody who has any ideas/suggestions. I know this is a long shot, but just maybe somebody has an idea.

Since they don't drive, I get the impression that they would have to walk the dog to that place they are looking for.   In that case, it's important to know the neighborhood in which they live.  Whatever that is, they probably should first call the Animal Shelter/Humane Society of Muscatine.  They might have a list of places, or allow them to use their facility, possibly for a small fee or donation.

Thanks for your suggestion. Actually, both drive, but not out of town and neither is really comfortable driving in strange locations. They live near the Discovery Center so are in a fairly central area. Both are extremely active for senior citizens and do walk the dog several times a day, but dogs that size probably need more than just walking, although the dog seems perfectly content with walking and running around their yard. The dog's owner jogs with it, so it's used to more exercise than it's currently getting.
