What is this about drugs being found at North High School last night on the evening news? I read in the local paper a few weeks ago that three students had been found to have drugs down at Central.
The news last night indicated that they even found a gun on one of the students.
Now these poor children will have drug records. Their life is ruined.

Surely you are joking
''Now those poor children will have drug records. Their life is ruined.''
I certainly hope your tone is sarcastic. Yes, drugs are in every school district and probably every school building. They have no one but themselves to blame if they are caugfht with drugs. I have no pity on them.

Drunks driving buses
Below I have cut and pasted an article out of the Columbus Dispatch this morning. Since I believe the school district is reviewing and about to make a decision on who will drive our children to school in the morning I am wondering if they have reviewed the testing procedures the current company Laidlaw uses in screening their drivers.
It is hard for me to believe that this man just stated drinking at age 61 in the middle of the day. It is also hard for me to believe that his supervisor never had a hint of this problem. I know alcoholics are good at covering up their addiction but somewhere along the way someone should have got wise.
School-bus driver accused of DUI, endangering kids
Friday, March 04, 2005
HUDSON, Ohio (AP) ?— A school bus driver faces criminal charges after dropping off a busload of students while drunk, police and school officials said Wednesday. No one was hurt.
Norbert Olzmann, 61, of Hudson, had dropped off 47 Hudson middle-school students at their homes after school Tuesday and was headed to pick up children at Holy Family School in Stow.
The church school received an anonymous phone call saying that the driver might be intoxicated.
School officials called Olzmann?’s supervisor at Laidlaw Transportation Services, who called police.
Hudson Police Chief David Robbins said Olzmann was given a breath test and found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Olzmann had no driving violations on his record. He was charged with child endangering and driving a school bus while intoxicated, officials said yesterday. He was released on bail.
He does not have a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Hudson is about 25 miles southeast of Cleveland.

Oh Please....
I don't know if the stories about drugs at North or Central are true, but if they are, and these children were arrested, booked, and now have drug records, then that's what they deserve. I have two teenagers at Pickerington Central... They know the rules and their responsibilities as young adults. If they choose to make the wrong choices, then they will take the consequences. They know that! I certainly wouldn't portray them as ''poor students with drug records.'' We, as parents, have got to stop protecting our children from their own mistakes. Otherwise, they'll learn that there will always be someone there to bail them out.
