NEDL;

Have you clicked on the letters to the editor tab at the journal online? And some of the comment threads at the bottom of  those letters? Wow...Muscatine sure seems to hate weirdmart. I never knew there were so many. This will upset several posters here if they read those.

They don't have to be vocal, they talk with their money and this Walmart is doing just fine.  Wish the rest of the small mom and pop businesses could say the same. People just don't seem to see, (or just don't care) what this mega corporation is doing to small business America. I believe Muscatine is a prime example.

Jeff,

My wife and I would LOVE to be able to afford to patronize ALL the local mom and pop stores. We love the service one usually gets and getting to know the folks that make things run face to face. The fact is we can not afford to make the trips or spend the additional dollars to do so.  WalMart has everything one needs in one place for a great price. I am sad that mom and pop can not compete dollar for dollar but I cant afford not to shop there. I dont think I we different from most folks.  I do use a local drug store(Hi Jim) but for the most part unless it is a very special item, we do most of our shopping at that evil place. Franklly I hate going there and will do most anything to get out of the weekly trip.  The drug store sells toothpase for example but why would I pay more for it there? The city does not help with parking. Even without the meters the snow removal is abismial these days. You cant get to the meters but you WILL Get a ticket. Even in the nice weather it is simply not easy to get a parking space.

Wally World suck--no question. My money has a limit so I will spend it where I get the most bang for my buck. Wally offers a fair wage for a fair days work for their employees. If they closed today, how many employees can local businesses absorb? I suggest that that number is close to zero.
