"Obviously your not a biker, otherwise you may have understood this.
This scenario was a tragedy yes, but at the same time it was a reminder to all who read it to wear your helmet, not ride like a fool and protect your passenger."
Hey XMC, I did get the point you were trying to make and I thought I had made my point about having a helmut on. I would hope everyone who read your post would have understood the need for wearing helmuts and riding sensibly.
And remember from a previous post by me to one of yours. "I have always wanted a Harley but feel I am too old now to start and could not afford it anyway." I did have my own bike when I was much younger and you will probably laugh because it was a 'Puch" made in itally and sold by 'sears, I bought it in Cedar Rapids before I even knew how to ride one. A friend rode it home for me and then gave me lessons on how to ride it. It was a 250 cc in size so it was not big and when a semi pased me on the highway, I really had to hang on to keep from being blown off the road. I always cringe when I see people riding without helmuts and I should have said "This is nothing more than a tragedy about those who ride motorcyloes without helmuts while speeding down the road."
One other thing, I found out that the bike I had was winning races all over Europe in the 250s cc class so I felt a little better about the name.
And one last story. A gentlemen in my Lions' club in his late 70's was an avid motorcylcist. and About 10 years earlier he found himself in a terrific rainstorm in Texas with very high winds. He saw a group of motorcyle riders hovered off on the side of the rode and chose to join them. While they were gathered there a car careened off the road and smashed into them and two were killed. His bike was a total loss and he eventually recovered. At the age of 79 he was riding his bike toward Tularosa, NM when he slowed and made a U-turn to go back the way he was coming. He turned right into the path of an uncoming car and was killed. He was a good respectful rider and no one had an explanation for what he did unless it was age related.
WE both know here are good riders and bad and I truly understand your feelings about the experiences you have had. I wish you many days of good riding and just remember to watch out for the oher feller.
