Why all the controversy? We are all law-abiding citizens here. We all pay taxes & our taxes go to pay our city officials. We hold them to a higher standard, to be sure. Have you checked out their paychecks, for putting their life on the line?
There is a suggestion being deliberated about people talking on cells while driving. It's not a law yet, (much to my chagrin, as I have a texting teen on my hands). You read what englishteacher & others said. Many officers don't work in their offices, they field calls on their cells for many different reasons. I say, "GO for it, dangit!" The criminals aren't sitting around following the laws. If our officers being on a cell helps them to solve crimes; so be it.
IMVHO... the bottom line is this. There are going to be officers that abuse their privleges, and there are going to be a "few" that look at this job as "only a paycheck". It's a given in any job. Would I want my child, my husband or myself to put that uniform on, every workday & know that I am walking out my door as a "walking target"? Let's face it, the "bad guys" are learning how to outnumber us. While we all go about our naive & merry ways, our police force is on the front line & ready in a second to come to our aid, whether we appreciate it or not.
C'mon... we all know how to multi-task. Don't sell the training our officers go through off.
