This is a continuation of the email about kids' coats and this would be good to pass on to your friends who travel. Bring back the hotel bottles of shampoo, soap, lotion, etc and donate those.
MCSA:
But ALWAYS remember them at sales or before throwing away ANY soap, shampoo, saving cream, razors (disposable kind), deodorants, toothbrushes (unused), toothpaste, etc, etc. They can use anything in the toiletry line. Just take it and drop it off at the window, no explanation needed. Or attach your name and address to it if you'd like a donation/thank you card sent to you for tax purposes. The "gym-sleepers" (people who don't want to go into the Homeless Shelter Program) are allowed 2 showers a week and at that time, MCSA has to supply them with everything for that shower - they are not walking around with a suitcase usually. So anything you can think of that is needed around shower time is needed by them. Even paper products and person hygiene products.
They also would like anything like individual packets of cocoa, coffee, tea, cup'o soup-type things, microwave popcorn, packets of tuna, etc. Things like that they also use to stuff individual's stockings with at Christmas. (Everyone in the building gets a stocking - which is actually only a plastic or paper bag, but some years they have looked pretty empty. So even bags of candy can be split up to distribute among the stockings, and there's always a need for diabetic candy and treats.

Hi Kurious! Thanks for this post. What perfect timing! My elementary school grandaughter & I were out tonight & talking about the frigid cold. We talked about the extreme cold - & how fortunate we were - as opposed to others & what we could do. I will print out your post - and ask her to take it to her next student council meeting. Maybe they can help. I hope others can also. I will pay attention to this. I think I have soaps, shampoos, etc. collected over time. I think I have some warm clothing in my closet that doesn't fit anymore - (thanks to my aging - NOT a thing to do with what I eat, mind you - LOL!). I usually send those items to goodwill or salvation army. I'll take them down there. I have also copied your post & am sending it to my email lists. Thanks again - Kurious - for your love & concern about our local population & reminding us of what is needed @ this time of year. |

Thank you, Tlou...
They're asking for such small things that I think most of us could buy a box of microwave popcorn or individual packets of cocoa or a box of candy canes. I know many of us are on pretty tight budgets, but these things would mean a lot to those who have nothing.
Merry Christmas. :-) |

I look forward to helping out any innocent child that is connected with MCSA. Or even those who are there through unforseen circumstances, etc. But, how can we make sure that the toothpaste we donate goes to someone who deserves it, and not to those idiots that find a way to stand around outside the building smoking cigarettes? By the way, where do they get the funds to buy those cigs? |
