Unfortunately, there's no way to be sure. I just figure that the things they're asking for are so small in the scheme of things that it's not that important. I don't know..and I might be and probably am wrong...but I sort of think maybe the toiletries are handed out as needed.

As for everybody getting a "stocking," well...it is Christmas and you can get a lot of things, like a box of 10 packages of hot chocolate mix for $1.00 and small wrapped candies that can all be divided up...small toys, hot cider mix..all kinds of things. Some of us probably have costume jewelry we never wear that wouldn't cost a penny (moi!) or other things like that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd rather give something and hope it goes to somebody who really needs it rather than give nothing.

This is a good thing. Thanks to all who help with these things. My wife and I do.

Not taking away from MCSA at all, but there is another faction in all our communities that need help too. I know some of you have read about Viola and Whitey Werner's toy drive at Rumor's for Toys for Kids at the Salvation Army. We helped with that and you can too, if inclined.

But alot of folks don't know that Viola also receives just about anything donated for personal use to give to Muscatine's abused women and kids shelter. For obvious reasons, this person with the state and its location must remain secret, but Viola is the proud local coordinator for drives for the same exact things you have spoken about here. And you can trust me on the fact that these are all real needs.

Imagine abused women and kids having to leave in the middle of the night or anytime and having nothing with them, only to be placed in one of our secret homes for security. They too, need toys for the kids to play with, some kids DVD's, personal health and hygiene materials, blankets, sheets, towels, etc, etc, etc.

Just want to make y'all aware. Thanks.

it's nice how things like this help you see what is truly important. my folks(both retired) have changed xmas plans from present buying to cheap gag gifts. instead of spending money we don't have( I have one son in the guard who was laid off from deere, there less then a yr, one daughter laid off from hon, who took a 5.00 pay cut but at least she is working and a brother out of work) so instead of being sad over lack of money for presents we will be laughing our butts off at all the gag gifts. we usually have a bunch of presents and a gag gift , but because so many don't have the money we decided to make it a fun christmas. merry xmas to all and god bless everyone.p.s just wanted this to stay front page. it is a great post.
