This isn't me talking here, I solemnly swear. My hubby says "We should give them as much money as we can possibly offer. Every one of us should send five dollars from every citizen in  any country considered a modern industrialized nation." I just had to know why? He says, and like I said, not my sentiments here, but......."Because if they don't get enough help to rebuild and sustain all those thousands and thousands of poor, under medicated, sick, under fed, homeless, ^&%$#() "souls" they will be heading over here like usual to this the land of milk and honey. Then we'll wish we sent all that we could when we had the chance." Grabbed his coffee and out the door he went.

Not even a smile this morning. He's been working a lot of hours lately.

Lucy.

I don't remember seeing print, tv commercial, or magazine or online ads delcaring Haiti a worldly vacation spot over the years. Have not seen it advertised as a cruise destination either.

I do, however, remember news stories and news shows like 60 minutes speaking to the rampant AIDS disease spreading all throughout Haiti. Have they controlled that? Have they started using building codes for earthquake prone areas?

Its been a sad country for a long time. I'm sorry for their losses after a natural disaster, but Nigel is right. The terrorist-initiated disaster against our country is still not fully dealt with. Some victims here need help yet. Everyone should prioritize as they see fit. I won't be sending any money there.

As for United Way, Red Cross, etc, etc.; have you ever seen the revelations of what the CEOs of those organizations make from your donations to them?

Haitians do try to come to the US by the boatload, often losing their lives in the attempt and if they are discovered before they make it to shore (lots of nighttime boat travel) they are sent back. Obviously, many have made it to the shores of south florida and most citizens of south florida aren't thrilled with their presence. That will continue no matter how much money/medicine/water/help we and others send. The worst conditions that they live in in florida are thousands better than haiti so they will always risk their lives to come to the USofA!
