Watching the news last night, it occured to me that whatever we're doing to discourage drunk driving isn't working. Three more dead on River Drive in Davenport, a road I suspect that most of us here have driven from time to time. Our local judge arrested for multiple offenses, two dead on the Davenport bridge last year, and it goes on....
I think that in 1964 or thereabouts, Iowa executed someone for the last time. Maybe it's time we start putting anybody who kills somebody because they drive drunk on the end of a 13 foot rope. Drunk driving is premeditated murder, and should be punished as such. The fear factor doesn't exist right now, and it has to exist before the drunks start to think twice about driving.
