1. I posted this, not for Mallory's benefit, but for others. I do not really believe that Mallory, nor other fools like him, will ever change. As stated before, trying to reason with him/her/it is really a waste of time.
2. As stated in my original post, this comment was posted as a "comment" related to a news story in Yahoo News. As you all know, comments posted related to news stories on the internet are almost all anonymous. So there is no way to determine the identity of the poster/commentor.
3. You can all decide for yourselves, of course, how much stock you put in the comment. You have to judge that based on the content of the comment. Is it believable? Is it supported by historical fact? Does it have some value? Etc. As for me, I believe it is believable and is instructive also. I have heard the same sentiment expressed on various news show interviews. My sons have also had similar conversations with people they know from the Eastern block countries. So I'd say don't dismiss it out of hand.
4. The common tactic of the far left, when confronted by something that exposes them, is to demean and run down the messenger. Just keep that in mind.
