Revisit old subject-Separation of church-state

Posted in: Muscatine

It comes to mind that liberals are always harping on separation of church and state; even to the extent of memorials and crosses they want removed from public properties. Also like the pledge of allegiance issues with plaques courthouses, and trying to rid public schools of reciting the "under God" phrase.

Was just wondering why they never say a word about the many US Military prisons, Fed prisons, and state prisons that actually issue Bibles and Korans, etc., to gov't prisoners?

Why would liberals think that was alright; but yet we can't have our kids praying in school?

It is not the liberal agenda that denies prayer or religious symbols to be displayed upon government property. If I'm not mistaken, your issue is with the Constitution. Are you suggesting the conservative agenda should be to change our Constitution? If so, to what?

I look at it this way,I grew up saying the pledge of allegiance each day in school and also in the Scouts. The words under god were not in the pledge back then and everyone thought it was fine. Most of my generation turned out fine so I do not see the problem either way. I went to school with a girl who was Jehovah witness and she did not stand up for the pledge of allegiance.  Our teachers said that was her choice so we accepted it.

As far as praying in school no one can stop anyone from saying a silent prayer because I have a grandson that does it each day. I do not feel that anyone has a right to disrupt school by insisting that public prayer be held in the hallways or in the cafeteria.

To me prayer and how it is done is a personal thing with each person making their own choice.

I a;so believe this country was founded on freedom of religion not what some one thinks is right or wrong.

This is probably a seperate issue but I have a problem with churches buying up prime realestate, often way more than they need. This takes the land off the tax roles. More and more, churches are getting involved in politics. I say tax 'em like everyone else.
