It's because the Senate rules currently allow for a perpetual filibuster by a minorty of 41 senators and the 'icans are using it to block everything they can regardless of merit. But you knew that.
A good change would be to limit a filibuster to a fixed number of days. like maybe 30. We might see some movement then.
Hoppy...you are absolutely correct about the voting and passage....
If only mallcontent could get it right just once....
The Senate voted last Dec 23rd to end debate on their final versionof the HC bill. That stopped any chance of a filibuster. Mall should also know that just before this vote, a Dem from Nebraska sided with Repubs and he gave threats of a filibuster. They paid him (Nelson) off with higher Medicaid paybacks for Nebraska. (You can look that up mall.) Then, the Senate bill was passed last Christmas Eve. There were no filibusters on the version passed.
The House passed their final versionof the HC bill March 21, 2010. Obama signed it into law a couple days later. All Repubs clearly voted against it and it still passed. There were no filibusters on the version passed.
The HC bill was never "blocked" by Repubs in these current sessions...but one Dem threatened it. Why lie about it, mallcontent?
